be as you are

This is where presence is practiced.
Thoughts are written as they form.
Patterns are noticed as they unfold.
Life is observed across seasons and daily rhythms.
What’s here is lived, loved, and returned to —
experiences captured over time.

The Philosophy

A world built at the threshold of the lived and the dreamed.

In the classical Chinese tradition, the year moves through micro-seasons — small, precise moments in the turning of the earth, each with its own name and felt quality. Swallows arrive. Rainbows first appear. White dew descends. This is a practice of that kind of attention, brought here — to Otago, New Zealand, where the seasons and the light are entirely their own.

I am 小紫雲 Little Purple Cloud. I tend a world called the Hermitage: a garden that teaches patience, a kitchen that follows the seasons, a writing table where the old texts and the present moment meet. What I share here are my field notes from the path — what I’m learning, what I’m noticing, what Master Clear Wind’s teachings are revealing as I practice living more closely with the seasons.

The images and stories here exist at the threshold between what is lived and what is dreamed into form. The simple promise: to notice what the season is asking. To share what that noticing reveals. And to invite you to look up and do the same, wherever you are.

THREE WAYS TO EXPLORE.

Moonlight + Meadows

Each thread of this world offers a different depth of engagement — from a weekly glimpse of what the season is doing, to explorations of daily life, to a more guided journey through the full arc of each season. You’re welcome to wander between them in whatever way feels natural.

An open, felt account of what this particular week is doing in the landscape, the body, and the energy of the moment. Sensory and specific: the quality of the light, what’s coming into flower, what the cold is asking. The Daoist and TCM context arrives naturally within the writing. Followed by a simple invitation: a practice, a noticing, something small and possible.

Glimpses of Little Purple Cloud’s daily life as it moves through the season. A recipe that arrived because of what’s in the garden. Something planted or harvested. A ritual that belongs to this time of year. An observation on a walk. These are less structured than the micro-season invitation—more like a moment captured in time.

For those who want to go deeper, Master Clear Wind, guides a more deliberate seasonal exploration: the principles and practices that support full presence to the energy of each season, taught week by week, building progressively through the arc of the season. Where the weekly letter offers a felt sense of the moment, the Seasonal Pathways offer the deeper why—the Daoist philosophy, the yang sheng practices, the understanding that makes the noticing meaningful.

I hope he’s homeless, otherwise I’m stealing someone else’s cat . . . There’s a thump outside my window. Not loud. Just enough to register through sleep. A familiar sound…
